ALFRED – STAGE 1 Support research infrastructure: ATHENA (pool type installation for experiments and thermo-hydraulic tests) ChemLab (laboratory for lead chemistry) Context For the completion of this demonstrator, a support infrastructure is needed, comprised of six completely unique installations: ATHENA, ChemLab, ELF, HELENA2, Hands-ON and Meltin’Pot. These are necessary in order to solve the open aspects of LFR technology, to elucidate scale effects and to carry out testing and demonstration activities for ALFRED components. The installations will operate based on a technical, scientific and demonstration program developed under the supervision of the FALCON consortium, as well as that of other international partners with whom FALCON has signed agreements, to ensure optimal use of these installations through a synergic correlation of activities carried out by other laboratories, sustainable operation (through international integration) and by diligently following the aims of LFRs.
